Septemer, 2011- CSS Reviews Cutting-Edge Construction Technology Building
CSS has been selected to review the Los Angeles Trade Technical College's (LATTC) new Construction
Technology Building (CTB). Not only will the 258,000 SF facility educate future building professionals and
tradesmen, it will also serve as a fine example of sustainable design. The CTB will utilize efficient mechanical
systems, a photovoltaic roof array and an active, sunshading facade among its many sustainable features. CSS
is pleased to have been selected by LATTC once again to offer its expertise on this prominent project.

July, 2011- 115,000 GSF New School in Brooklyn, NY to be Reviewed by CSS
Construction Specialty Services, LLC (CSS) is proud to have been selected for the constructability and
coordination review of the New York City School Construction Authority’s (NYCSCA) PS/IS 338. The New
York based designer, Purcell Architects PC has made K-12 buildings its specialty and has completed a number
of successful projects for the NYCSCA. This new school in the Prospect Park South neighborhood of Brooklyn
is the latest project in the ongoing relationship between CSS, the NYCSCA and its designers. PS/IS 338 will
provide space for 757 students, sports and dining facilities, support staff and a thoughtfully landscaped
playground. The building will occupy a former car service lot and dramatically improve the streetscape of
the 500 block of Coney Island Avenue.
June, 2011- New York Selects CSS to Review 145,000 GSF New School in Manhattan
Construction Specialty Services, LLC has completed its review of the IS/HS 868. To be built at 10 East 15th
Street, this 11 story school will provide intermediate and high school instructional and support spaces
including a multipurpose "gymatorium." Adjacent to Union Square, this modern facility will be a fine
addition to the urban fabric of central Manhattan.
April, 2011- New York Selects CSS to Review the Renovation and Conversion of St. Benedict's School
Construction Specialty Services, LLC has completed its review of the New York City School Construction
Authority’s (NYC SCA) conversion of St. Benedict Joseph Labre School in Richmond Hill, Queens. The historic
parochial school, first built in 1919 will be converted into a modern facility for the public school district. The
building contains ornate, handcrafted masonry details that will be restored during construction.
Additionally, the interior will be reorganized and upgraded with modern finishes, electrical, plumbing and
HVAC systems. CSS is proud to have been a part of the modernization and preservation of this historic
facility.
February, 2011- Los Angeles Trade Technical College Selects CSS for Historic Project
The Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) has selected Construction Specialty Services, LLC to
oversee the constructibility and coordination review of the historic Performing Arts and Entertainment
Center on the downtown LACCD campus. The center, or the "Grand Auditorium" as it is sometimes called, is
an existing 21,800 gross square-foot theater that will be renovated and wrapped with 19,270 additional
square-feet of new space. The renovation and expansion of the Grand Auditorium, renowned for its
historical features, is being overseen by Behr Browers Architects, Inc., restorer of the famous Grauman's
Chinese Theater and other prestigious facilities in Los Angeles. Construction Specialty Services, LLC is
overseeing the coordination of BBA's drawings with those of Tetra Design, another architect on the project.
December, 2010- The City of New York Calls Upon CSS Again
The City of New York has again selected CSS to conduct constructibility review services upon several new
upcoming school projects.
December, 2010- Shep Reynolds Receives Masters Degree.
CSS is pleased to announce that Shepherd Reynolds, one of the company's LEED AP's, has received his
Master of Architecture degree from North Carolina State University, School of Architecture.
October, 2010- CSS Welcomes Tom Butler and Steven Olejar
The East Coast Regional Office welcomes Tom Butler and Steve Olejar to its growing team of professionals.
Mr. Butler has over twenty years of experience in the field as a construction manager, and Mr. Olejar is a
licensed structural engineer with extensive experience in commercial construction. Mr. Butler and Mr.
Olejar will serve as the Senior Architectural and Senior Mechanical reviewers, respectively, for the East
Coast Office.
September, 2010- CSS Moves Into New Headquarters
Construction is complete on CSS' headquarters in Raleigh, NC. The newly expanded and renovated facilities
on Falls of Neuse will serve as the company's Eastern Regional Office as well as the main hub of operations
for international clients in London and the Middle East.
July, 2010- CSS Phases Out Old-Style Deliverables
Earlier this year, CSS phased out the traditional constructibility deliverables of spreadsheets, comment
binders and separate, hand-drawn redlines. Today, clients receive a completely digitized set of plans and
specs in PDF format, and a link to their project that contains:
-An executive summary of the major findings and concerns.
-A full set of plans in PDF format with comments and redlines digitally transcribed.
-A full set of specifications, similarly annotated.
-24/7 access, free archiving, and the ability to print files at any time.
-The ability to download and store the project on their own computer or burn it to CD.
Paper copies of the annotated plans and specs may be printed by any reprographer, at any size.
June, 2010- The Green Initiative Continues
No more paper! Clients have given us outstanding feedback on our initiative to reduce paper. No more bulky
binders of comments... No more lost sets of redlines-everything is electronically stored on the Company's
server.
May, 2010- CSS Beats 15 Other Competitors to Become the #1 Coordination Review Firm
Construction Specialty Services recently was notified that a Maryland public school district selected it above
15 other firms competing to submit qualifications to provide Constructibility and Coordination Review
Services to the district. Beating out several other local and national firms, CSS hopes to commence service
to the district later this year.
April, 2010- CSS Saves Client Thousands ($$$) in Avoided Shipping Costs
Earlier this year Construction Specialty Services rolled out its latest improvement, Digital File Transfer. "No
longer do clients have ship original plans and specifications," says Leia Austin, CSS' DFT manager. "It was
expensive and took time for the documents to arrive," she adds. This improvement is saving our clients
thousands of dollars in avoided shipping costs and is improving review turn-around times. Paul Whittington,
of our Los Angeles office: "Some clients were shipping six full-sized sets at about $750 per shipment. On an
annual basis, we're saving them over $11,000."
March, 2010- CSS to Exhibit at NSBA Conference in Chicago, IL.
Construction Specialty Services will be attending and exhibiting at the 70th annual National School Boards
Assocation conference in Chicago, April 10th-12th. Come by and meet with representatives of our West
Coast and East Coast offices.

June, 2009- CSS to Exhibit at School Building Expo in Pittsburgh, PA.
Construction Specialty Services will be attending and exhibiting at the 2009 School Building Expo June 2nd -
4th.
April, 2009- CSS Passes Major Milestone: Reviewed over $4.5 Billion in Construction.
This month Construction Specialty Services passed a major milestone by performing reviews on over $4.5
Billion worth of construction. The range of projects bringing the company to this point has spanned the
country and have touched upon several sectors, with most being in the K-12, Higher Education, and
Healthcare markets.
